“I’d sell my soul to the devil just to get the help I thought he needed.”

Those are the words of Alissa Dumsch, quoted in a cover story by Abigail Jones of the Washington Post Magazine January 13, 2020. It is a familiar story – a mother at her wit’s end, seeking care for her son Aaron, overcome by severe mental illness.

Stories like this are abundant right here in Columbia County.  That’s why NAMI Columbia County offers a monthly Family Support Group (first Friday of every month at the Morris Memorial on Park Row in Chatham, NY) and periodic Family to Family classes that help you understand and copy with mental illness in a loved one.  We also offer education classes so that you can better understand the illness and how to help.

You can join NAMI Columbia County online at NAMI.org, and/or email namiccny@gmail.com to get on our mailing list and get meeting reminders.
